About ASEAN Business Awards 2018 | 12 November 2018

Launched in 2007 by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) recognises outstanding ASEAN businesses that have also shown significant progress in establishing and reinforcing their positions, in a myriad of sectors.

Family Business (NEW)

Description – Family Business

To recognize outstanding family enterprises which have achieved outstanding successes and sustainable growth in ASEAN.

Eligibility

  • Leadership of the company includes family member(s) from third or subsequent generations, or has multiple branches of a family involved in leadership.
  • The family still has at least 51% ownership and voting stake and is primarily responsible for setting the strategic direction and values for the firm.
  • Minimum annual revenue of US$100m
  • The legal form of the company or group of companies is not relevant.
  • Companies may be private or publicly traded.
  • If the shares and voting rights have been transferred to a trust, it will remain to be considered as family business if the family has dominant influence on the trust in a way described above.
  • The business and its operations is located in the ASEAN region.

Description

Outstanding performance and presence in the ASEAN Economic Community Priority Integration Sectors. Includes the recognition of integration and connectivity between ASEAN businesses owned and operated by the applicant.

Eligibility

  • Be an ASEAN-incorporated enterprise with at least 40% ASEAN-owned equity and have operational presence in TWO or More ASEAN countries.
  • Be in operations for a minimum of five years and must have three years audited financial statements
  • Fulfill at least one of the following conditions:

Large-Tier

  • Annual Revenue of a minimum of USD 100million – Total assets of more than USD 50million
  • Minimum of 200 employees

Mid -Tier

  • An annual revenue between USD 20 million to USD 100 million
  • Minimum of 200 employees

SME Excellence

Description – CSR

Demonstrate a high standard of commitment in the way they organise and integrate their responsible business practices will receive this prestigious endorsement. Submissions should provide evidence of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy that integrates responsible business practice into their mainstream operations resulting in a positive impact in the workplace, the marketplace, the environment or the community.

Description – Employment

Demonstrate the provision of a stimulating and supportive workplace. Qualifiers of this award are required to demonstrate how its people development strategies have created a committed, motivated and effective workforce.

Description – Growth

Have achieved outstanding commercial success and sustainable growth will be honoured with this award. Submissions should demonstrate initiative and a willingness to undertake bold new ventures and include evidence of sustainable growth and commercial success to levels that are outstanding for the size of the applicant’s operations.

Description – Innovation

Demonstrate a proven ability to create, nurture and develop new products or services. Qualifiers of this award are required to demonstrate how they have differentiated themselves from others in their industry. Achievements can include, but are not limited to the invention, design, production, performance, marketing and distribution of their product or service.

Eligibility

Small and Medium Size Enterprise(SMEs)

  • Be an ASEAN-incorporated enterprise with at least 40% ASEAN-owned equity, and preferably (not compulsory) with operational presence in two or more ASEAN countries;
  • Be in operations for a minimum of three years;
  • Preferably have two years of financial statements (audited or non-audited). Audited financial statements should be provided for the growth criteria.
  • SMEs participating in ABA will need to comply with the SME Criteria defined by respective ASEAN Member States.

Friends of ASEAN

Description – Friends of ASEAN

A non-ASEAN owned enterprise that demonstrates a continuous and increased commitment in growing its presence within ASEAN.

Eligibility

  • Be a non-ASEAN owned enterprise with at least 40% revenue from ASEAN operations in two or more ASEAN countries (source of revenue to be provided by candidate);
  • Be in operations for a minimum of five years and must have three years audited financial statements; and
  • Fulfill at least one of the following conditions:
    • Annual revenue of a minimum of USD 100million
    • Total assets of more than USD 50million
    • Minimum of 200 employees

Young Entrepreneur

Description – Young Entrepreneur

Outstanding business owner below the age of 45 who have demonstrated significant success though leadership, market positioning and company performance.

Eligibility

  • The age of the nominee must be 45 years or below
  • Must EITHER be the founder of their own business and achieved significant success with unique marketing approach or products/services OR has an ownership of more than 20% with significant influence in the board and have an active executive management position role
  • Be an ASEAN-incorporated enterprise with at least 40% ASEAN-owned equity;
  • Have two years audited financial statements for financial performance criteria;
  • Demonstrate capability for innovation and a proven ability to create, nurture and develop new products or services;
  • Demonstrate strong financial performance results and growth over the past two years.

Women Entrepreneur

Description – Women Entrepreneur

Women management in the organisation who changed either the following: Marketing Strategy, Management Style; Human Resource Management or Organisation Culture and achieved significant success in the business or improvement in efficiency which benefited the company overall.

Eligibility

  • Must EITHER be the founder of their own business and achieved significant success with unique marketing approach or products/services OR has an ownership of more than 20% with significant influence in the board and have an active executive management position role
  • Be an ASEAN-incorporated enterprise with at least 40% ASEAN-owned equity;
  • Have two years audited financial statements for financial performance criteria;
  • Demonstrate capability for innovation and a proven ability to create, nurture and develop new products or services;
  • Demonstrate strong financial performance results and growth over the past two years.

Sustainable Social Enterprise

Description – Sustainable Social Enterprise

To recognize outstanding social enterprises which are innovative and have made significant sustained contributions to the disadvantaged in our community.

Eligibility

  • Be an ASEAN-incorporated enterprise with at least 40% ASEAN-owned equity, and preferably (not compulsory) with operational presence in two or more ASEAN countries;
  • Be in operations for a minimum of three years;
  • Preferably have two years of financial statements (audited or non-audited).
  • Nominee’s business model and mission aims to generate benefits to social or under-privileged groups and its business tackles social problems, improves communities, provides people access to employment and training, or helps the environment.
